Soccer isn’t baseball, okay. And the way we objectively and statistically analyze the two sports have to therefore be drastically different. The biggest thing that makes analyzing baseball so great is how every action that a player can make on a baseball diamond can be categorized with every other of the same event happening.

Even that.

Soccer is a much harder sport to categorize events. Nothing’s done in a vacuum. I mean, what the heck is a pass? Every pass is made under different circumstances. This blog is gonna be dedicated to exploring what analytics in soccer can, and can’t, do.
